TUTORIAL: Connecting
to your web space using a FTP client
There are many FTP client
programs available on the Internet. For the purpose of this tutorial
we are using
Ipswitch's WS_FTP_PRO. Considered by many in the IT industry
today to be the best. If you choose to use another client that's
fine, they are all similar but we only support this one.
For the purpose of this
tutorial we assume this is your first experience with an FTP client.
NOTE: There are six (6)
simple steps with pictures to this tutorial.
Step 1.
Click File, Connect, Connect
Wizard and you will something very similar to this image (below). On
the left box is the files on your computer (local) hard drive. On
the right after you get connected will be the files in your web
space (remote).

In the site name type
something that will remind you where you are connecting e.g.: My
Auction Site or My Personal Web Site or Your Name.
Step 2.
Clicking next will open a menu
saying choose Connection Type. The default is "FTP" which is just
fine.

Click next.
Step 3.
This will open a menu which
says "Server Address". In most cases this will be
ftp.bccommunities.net.
However is some cases it may be something else. Please read
carefully the e-mail we sent you which will specify what your
"Server Address" is.

Click Next to continue.
Step 4.
Now you will be asked for your
username and password. When you type the password in be displayed as
a series of ********. Check the e-mail we sent you which will
contact both your username and password. We suggest you copy and
paste them here so no mistake is made.
NOTE: this
information is case-sensitive and must not have any leading or
trailing spaces added.

Once that is done click next.
Step 5.
This will open a menu named
"Finish". Here you are asked to check and verify the information you
have entered in the previous 4 steps is correct in all respects. If
not please click "Back" and correct what ever mistakes have been
made. Please make sure you have a tick mark in the box marked
"Connect to this site".
If the information is correct
proceed to Step 6 by

Clicking "Finish".
Step 6.
Assuming you have done
everything correctly you will now be connected to your website and
see something similar to the picture below. In which the files in
the left box or column are the files on your computer (local) hard
drive. And the files in the right box or column will be the files in
your web space (remote).
In the middle of the two
columns are two arrows. One points from the left (local) to the
right (remote). And one points from the right (remote) to the left
(local). To move files from your local hard drive to the
webspace browse for the files on the left side just as you would in
Windows Explorer. When found highlight them and click the arrow
pointing from the left (local) to the right (remote). Wait
until you here a sound, or click on the information tab at the
bottom left to watch the progress of your file upload. When this
indicated finished your files will show up in the right (remote)
column and you will have completed your first FTP transfer.
Well done!

When you are finished click
"Disconnect" at the top. If Disconnect is grayed out, don't panic.
just click with you mouse once in the right (remote) column and
check again. Now it should be enabled. Click "disconnect and your
done.
