HINTS / TIPS

PORT 25 BLOCK: On June 19, 2007 Shaw Internet www.shaw.ca made network wide
changes to their SMTP email servers. Connections made to Port 25 (the standard SMTP
port for outbound email) that are not directed toward a Shaw Email server ( shawmail or mail.shawcable.com  ) are blocked.  Further information can be found on their site.

COOKIES: Many secure sites today use a cookie which is stored on your computer to help identify you when if you return to that site. Can they be used for advertisement trackers - yes they can. But that's not what are sites use them for. Many of the secure sites, sites that
require a login require that you accept cookies. For your convenience please see directions, immediately below, for setting today's common browsers to accept cookies ...

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.x

1. From the "Tools" menu item near the top right of the browser, select "Internet Options..."
2. In the pop-up window, click the "Privacy" tab.
3. Move the slide bar to "Medium High" or anything lower.
4. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the pop-up window.

Alternate method for MSIE 7.x:

1. From the "Tools" menu item, select "Internet Options..."
2. In the pop-up window, click the "Privacy" tab.
3. Click the "Sites" button in the middle right of the pop-up window.
4. Type "the URL of the website you want access to" in the "Address of website:" field and click the "Allow" button.
5. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
6. Again, Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the next pop-up window.

Mozilla Firefox 1.5 / 2.x

1. Click on "Tools" in the menu bar and select "Options..." from the drop-down menu.
2. In the "Options" window, click on "Privacy" at the top (padlock image).
3. Click the "Cookies" tab in the middle-right section of the window.
4. Check the box next to "Allow sites to set Cookies."
5. If you wish, you may also check the box next to "for the originating site only."
6. Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
